Endodontic Treatment

Endodontics is a dental specialty concerned with the study and treatment of the dental pulp. Although Glenn Smile Center in Aurora, Colorado is primarily concerned with General Dentistry, there are minor cases we do treat. In more severe cases we have a number of specialists who can help with endodontic treatments. The most common treatment is the root canal. Other treatments include a variety of procedures including endodontic retreatment, surgery, treating cracked teeth, and treating dental trauma. The root canal is the process of removing the dental pulp in order to save a tooth or prevent further problems from forming. In cases where the dental pulp becomes infected, injured or diseased endodontic treatment becomes necessary.

Endodontic Retreatment

With the appropriate care, your teeth that have had endodontic treatment will last as long as other natural teeth. Yet, a tooth that has received treatment may fail to heal or pain may continue to exist. Sometimes, the pain may occur months or years after treatment. If so, Endodontic Retreatment may be needed.

Improper healing may be caused by:

Once retreatment has been selected your endodontist will reopen your tooth to gain access to the root canal filling material. The material will be removed to enable access to the root canal. The doctors will now clean your canals and carefully examine the inside of the problematic tooth. Once cleaned, the doctors will fill and seal the canals and place a temporary filling in the tooth.

At this point, you will need to return to Glenn Smile Center as soon as possible in order to have a new crown or restoration placed on the tooth to restore full functionality.
